SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP

I REMEMBER AN OLD PARABLE, A VERY POPULAR

PARABLE ABOUT A FARMER AND HIS OLD MULE.

Seems like the mule fell into the farmer’s own well. The farmer heard the mule’s braying--------or whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After long, careful assessing of the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mules plight, but had to decide that neither it or the old well was worth saving. He called several of his neighbors together and told them what had happened, and they not having any idea to help either, agreed to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put it out of its misery

Initially, the mule was very hysterical when the dirt began to fall on him. But as the farmer and his neighbors continued the constant shoveling and the dirt built up on his back, a thought struck the mule. It suddenly dawned on it that every time a pile of dirt accumulated on his back, it could just shake it off and climb up.

This the mule did, blow after blow.

“Shake it off and step up.......shake it off and step up.......shake it off and step up! It kept repeating all the time to encourage itself.” No matter how painful the blows, or how large the pile, or how distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought “panic” and just kept right on shaking it off and stepping up like” a stubborn old mule.”

It wasn’t that long before the old mule, battered and exhausted for sure, stepped triumphantly over the wall of the well, alive and well. What seemed like would surely bury him actually was a blessing in disguise, waiting to help him-----all because of the way to choose to handle adversity.

That’s life!

If we face our problems, no matter how daunting and respond to them positively, without “panic”, but refusing to give in to “panic”, bitterness or self-pity, we will, like “a stubborn old mule” triumph. The adversities that come along to bury us usually have along with them the very real potential to benefit us.

Never be afraid to try something new as the solution.

Remember—that amateurs built the ark.

                                    Professional built the “unsinkable” Titanic!
